A traffic accident often happens in the blink of an eye. One moment you are driving down the road and the next you have been involved in a car wreck. Crashes can range from a small bump in a parking lot to multi-vehicle pile-ups and fatalities.
A two vehicle accident on September 4th ended with one man being taken to the hospital and facing possible traffic charges. The Tioga man facing traffic charges was leaving Fred’s
Any accident, however large or small can lead to injury. Trauma pain is defined as pain from an injury or wound caused by external force or violence. Trauma pain in motor vehicle accidents can vary by the circumstances of the accident but some of the more common injuries include whiplash, spinal cord injury, and head injury. Even a low speed accident of 5 mph has been shown to cause spinal injury. All spinal injuries are serious and some may not be noticed immediately, even by the injured party.
Whiplash is one such injury that may not show itself until hours, days, or even months after an accident. Though most people think of whiplash as being caused by a rear end accident it is actually caused by a sudden movement of the head backward, forward, or sideways. This sudden movement can cause vertebrae to misalign and the muscles and ligaments of the neck to be sprained or strained.
While neck pain seems to be the obvious signs of whiplash there are other signs and symptoms to watch for. Pain may radiate to the back, arms and legs. A sudden onset of a vertigo, dizziness, or ear ringing may be a sign of neck trauma. Headaches and migraines may be noted as well as visual disturbance and jaw or face pain. Many of these symptoms may go undiagnosed as spinal trauma since they can occur long after an accident. If undiagnosed it is impossible to begin the treatments recommended for whiplash.
In order to insure proper diagnoses and treatment it is crucial that an accident victim, even if not feeling any pain or discomfort, be seen by a medical professional for a spinal exam. There are many tests, to include x-rays and digital infrared imaging that can help determine if a spinal injury has occurred. If whiplash is the diagnoses, correction of the spinal injury can help prevent years of pain and suffering.
Any accident can be serious if there is a spinal injury involved. A timely and thorough spinal exam can help an accident victim avoid years of pain and suffering. If you or someone you love has been hurt in any type of accident please call attorneys Carroll and Carroll at (570) 882-8683.
